Acupuncture and functional medicine support
The themes that come up during perimenopause and menopause can be physical, emotional and spiritual. Many people come to the clinic for help with irregular cycles, anxiety and hot flashes, but the conversation often shifts to changing priorities, evolving relationships and a new connection to one’s life’s purpose.
In Chinese Medicine, this stage of life is known as our Second Spring—an empowering time of renewal, wisdom and self-discovery.
The systems meant to steady us during this shift are often depleted or overextended by the time we arrive here. We’ve spent decades caring for others, advancing careers, and holding so much together. By supporting the whole body, we can rebuild our innate capacity to handle this transition.
This quick, two-part quiz blends Chinese Medicine and western science to help you understand what your symptoms are trying to tell you during this season of life.
This transition isn’t a moment—it’s a chapter. And your body may need different kinds of support along the way. Many people come in as symptoms arise or simply to decompress when life feels full. For those who want deeper, more comprehensive care, we can bring in Functional Medicine approaches like liver detox support and gut healing, along with cycle tracking and advanced hormone testing.

Yes.
Acupuncture can support hormone regulation in early perimenopause, ease hot flashes and night sweats, improve sleep quality, and help calm an overtaxed nervous system. In my practice, acupuncture sessions often include other lifestyle tools and advanced lab testing for blood sugar management, joint pain, immune system changes and other pieces of the health puzzle that gets stirred up in this chapter.
Yes, though these hormones fluctuate quite a bit as you move through perimenopause, so testing tends to be more reliable earlier in perimenopause, before cycles become too unpredictable. We can also talk through whether serum (blood) or urine testing makes more sense for you based on your specific symptoms and where you are in this chapter. These two hormones are really just one piece of the picture and the other markers below are usually the centerpiece of the treatment plan.
We usually get a good sense of the estrogen and progesterone picture just by understanding your cycle and hormone patterns over time.
My focus is on hormonal health, fertility, IVF, and perimenopause specifically. I’m board-certified in reproductive acupuncture with more than 20 years of experience and yes, I’m right there in it myself! In addition to acupuncture, I bring in functional medicine and lifestyle support and comprehensive lab testing that you won’t find in your doctor’s office. We can look deeper at testing through blood, advanced hormone urine tests and microbiome stool tests to support more complex health challenges and to build a fully personalized treatment plan. I stay current with research and protocols and love to brainstorm with my patients to help create a team and path that makes sense for them, especially in this age of information overload. Not at all. Acupuncture can ease symptoms but it doesn’t change your actual estrogen and progesterone levels the way HRT does. For those who prefer not to go on HRT, acupuncture combined with supplements, herbs, and lifestyle support can offer a lot of relief on its own. Others choose HRT for symptom relief and its longer-term benefits, and use acupuncture alongside it to manage symptoms HRT doesn’t fully address, as well as a regular check-in point throughout the transition. I don’t prescribe HRT myself, but I can help you think through whether it’s a good fit based on your symptoms and goals, and refer you to a prescribing provider if needed.
